How do I turn off those avatars?!
A very common question amongst new VSIXc users. This is something that drives alot away. Don't worry, here's how you do it!
- Click 'chat options' along the top. It's right next to 'chatroom list.'
- Upon opening that, scroll down to 'Enable Avaters.' It should be checked. Uncheck it.
- Refresh your page and voila! A good ol' down home feeling!
Ok, I like the avatars, but I just want to change from that corny Spongebob
Easy!
- Go to 'My Profile' just above the chat nicknames list and right next to Chat Emotion's
- You will now have to Login again. This is where most users mess up and get frustrated.
- Once you login, go back to My Profile and your free to edit it and change your avatar there!
I heard that VSIXc only works with Internet Explorer, is that true?
Absoloutely not! VSIXc is compatible with Firefox, provided you do a slight update. See this guide for more information.
Well, I don't use Firefox or Internet Explorer, or if I do, I don't like either, is there another option?
Your in luck! Unlike many other chats, VSIXc has developed their own, stand alone software and it's quite easy to navigate and get to. To access the software, do the following.
- Firstly, go to Start.
- Next, go to All Programs.
- After that, find VSIXc chat.
- Click VSIXc chat.
Does the VSIXc software contain spyware, adware or trojans?
No! This is a free program for the users of VSIXc for added easability and navagability to our website. We think the users should have all the resources at their disposal.
I want to register a room, but everywhere else it's so expensive, do I have to pay here?
No! VSIXc is a COMPLETELY free chat network. We wont make you pay for anything, at any time, for any reason. VSIXc has been and always will be free!
Ok, where do I go to register my room at?
The Helpdesk is the place to do it. Someone will answer you there, and if that doesnt work, the Lobby has no restrictions, so, you dont have to wait to be voiced, and you can whisper an admin, sysop, or guide and they will do so accordingly.
I don't like my nickname, how can I change it?
Currently, you can only change your nickname on mIRC. To change your nickname on webchat, an administrator will have to delete your account and you will have to remake it. This is a change to soon be updated. To change your nickname in mIRC:
- Exit all the rooms you're in
- In your status window, type /nick or /tnick (for a temporary nick that resets itself when you restart mIRC) followed by a nickname of your choice
- Rejoin your rooms
I have an old UTF-8 nickname from MSN chat, can I use it here?
At the present time, VSIXc does not support UTF-8 encoded nicknames. We support plain text characters, and that is due to the aging OCX. This is expected to be fixed on the next OCX update. BUT, if you use mIRC, you may want to check and I havent used either method, so, I'm not real sure how well they work. You can contact dren in the Lobby, and he or another user may be able to guide you in a better direction.
How reliable are the servers?
The servers experience almost no down times. There are 5 servers that are linked together to provide you with the greatest, and most efficient chatting experience. Under our current setup, the server has went down two times that were unexpected. One was a blackout, and the other was a DDOS attempt.
Is there a place I can go for help if I don't understand anything?
Of course! The Helpdesk is always a good bet, and so is the Lobby. Both places are full of knowlegable, helpful users that can answer any question you may have.
I see people with gold shields. Who are they?
People with gold shields by their names are official VSIXc staff. These are the ONLY people that should provide official statements or answer questions that involve user to user conflict or room issues.
I've heard alot about the VSIXc SDK, what is it and how do I get it?
The VSIXc SDK is a fancy term for a chatroom on your website. If you want to put it into a group, this does NOT violate MSN Groups terms. Your uploading it into your documents, and theres no illegal material on it, so, your in no way violating MSN Groups T.O.S. You can find the sdk and a tutorial on how to use it on the "VSIXc SDK" page.
Your emoticons are so much different then where I've been before, is there a list of them?
Yes. Just above the chatroom nicklist is a chat emoticon list.
I want to change my owner and host keys, but, I dont know how to use mIRC. What can I do?
No worries! You can change your owner- and hostkeys through webchat! And it's simple to. You just have to simply type /ownerkey yourpasshere or /hostkey yourpasshere. Easy huh?
How does someone else use the keys I have set in my room?
By using the /pass command. When someone types /pass, they will be prompted with a box to enter an owner- or hostkey. If they enter it correct, it will owner or host them, respectively.
